How Reggio-Inspired Learning Comes to Life at Super Kidz Club

Our Concord, CA classrooms follow the Reggio-inspired approach: children lead, teachers listen and the environment itself becomes a teacher. Here is what that means for your child.

Reggio-Inspired • Play-Based

Curiosity Leads.
Learning Follows.

Super Kidz Club is a Reggio-inspired preschool and child care center in Concord, CA. We believe children learn best when they are given the opportunity to explore, create, question and discover, so our curriculum combines intentional teaching with child-led exploration. Teachers observe what children are curious about and plan hands-on projects around it, weaving in early literacy, math, science, art and social-emotional skills along the way. The result builds confidence, creativity, independence and a lifelong love of learning, from the infant room through our school-age program.

How Children Learn

Learning That Starts With the Child

In a Reggio-inspired classroom the child is seen as capable and curious, the environment is arranged to invite exploration, and the teacher is a researcher who observes, documents and plans the next step. Instead of a fixed worksheet calendar, projects emerge from children’s real questions. Here is what that looks like day to day at our Concord center.

  • Learning Through Play & Exploration

Play is the work of early childhood. Children build, paint, pour, sort, climb and pretend, and teachers extend that play with new materials and open questions. A group fascinated by shadows might measure them, draw them and stage a puppet show, picking up vocabulary, sequencing and teamwork along the way.

  • Building Confidence & Independence

Children are trusted with real choices and real responsibility: choosing a project, caring for materials, solving a disagreement with words. Age-appropriate routines and self-care build independence, and emotional awareness is practiced every day so children learn to understand and regulate their feelings.

  • Early Skills for School & Life

Literacy, numeracy, science and STEM are woven into projects rather than taught in isolation: counting and patterns in block play, letters and stories at the table, nature and weather in the yard. Kindergarten and TK readiness is a strong goal, balanced with creativity and well-being, because every child develops at their own pace.

Infants Through Age 12

The Same Principles at Every Age

The approach stays constant from the infant room to summer camp: observe the child, follow the curiosity, build the skills inside the play. What changes is the material, the pace and the size of the projects. Here is how Reggio-inspired learning is tailored to each stage we serve at our Concord center.

  • 0–24 months

    Infants

For babies, learning is sensory and relationship-based. Caregivers respond to each infant’s cues, narrate the day and offer textures, sounds and safe materials to explore. Routines follow the baby, not the clock, and language, motor skills and early creativity grow through gentle, age-appropriate play.

    Preschool

Preschoolers lead small-group projects, express ideas through paint, music and building, and explore early literacy, numeracy, science and STEM through hands-on experiences. Teachers coach social-emotional skills and independence daily, preparing children for the transition to TK or kindergarten.

    Before & After School

Before and after school, the same spirit continues: homework support first, then creative projects, sports and outdoor play chosen around what kids are interested in. Social connection and the chance to explore their own interests keep older children engaged long after the school day ends.

    Summer Camp

Summer turns the whole season into a project, with themed on-site days like Camping Day and Christmas in July and two field-trip days each week. Campers in Concord, California get big adventures plus the comfort of a home base with friends and teachers they know.

What Families Can Expect Day to Day

Expect to see children busy with real materials: paint, clay, blocks, loose parts and whatever a current project calls for. Expect teachers on the floor, observing, asking open questions and planning the next step from what children show them. Expect outdoor time in our large fenced yard, time for music and movement, and routines that help children feel secure.

Expect a diverse, inclusive community where children are respected as individuals and families with different learning needs feel included. And expect a director who knows your child by name and is easy to reach with any question.

Questions

Everything parents ask us about Reggio-inspired learning in Concord. Still curious? We are happy to talk it through on a tour.

Contact Us
  • No. Super Kidz Club is Reggio-inspired. The Reggio Emilia approach is not a franchise or a certification; schools around the world adapt its principles. We are not affiliated with Reggio Children or the municipality of Reggio Emilia, Italy.

  • Montessori uses a defined set of materials and individual work cycles. Reggio-inspired classrooms follow emergent, group-led projects with open-ended materials, and teachers act as co-learners who observe and plan from what children show them. Neither approach is better; the right fit depends on your child, and the best way to decide is to visit and watch the children at work.

  • Yes, adapted to the age. For babies it looks like responsive caregiving and sensory exploration. For school-age kids it is homework support followed by projects and play built around their interests. See our programs for each stage.

  • Kindergarten and TK readiness is a strong goal of our preschool program. Project-based learning builds vocabulary, early math, problem solving, self-regulation and the social skills kindergarten teachers value most. Because children develop at different paces, we treat readiness as a goal rather than a guarantee. See our preschool program.

  • Teachers observe children's interests and plan projects around them. Ask on your tour how updates about your child's day are shared with families.

  • Absolutely. Schedule a tour and we will walk you through each room while the children are at play.
